Students with disabilities can benefit from using resources that have been edited or adapted from their original forms. The Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) and American Disabilities Act (ADA) protect educators' rights to adapt or edit copyrighted work in support of a student with disabilities.

- it is on loan to the student for a predetermined amount of time.
- the student agrees to use the resource for personal use only
- and the resource is stored on a secure, not publically accessible site
