Classroom Culture and Academic Integrity

Students in classrooms with unclear, unpredictable, or reactive communication are most at risk for academically dishonest behavior. Whenever possible, make finding answers to their questions simple, familiar, and proactive.

Predictability Builds Trust
  • Start quizzes and exams the same way. The more predictable, the less anxiety inducing.
  • Use clear, consistent, and familiar language.
  • Keep consequences consistent so expectations stay clear.
Eliminate Guessing and Over-Reliance on Peers

Students want to know these two things for every task:

  • What am I allowed to do and use?
    • Collaboration
    • Resources
    • Technology
    • Time
  • What is expected of me?
    • Rubrics
    • Components
    • Deadlines
