If you suspect unpermitted generative AI use by a student, follow the protocol for investigating academic dishonesty.
Before you talk to the student or report it to an Assistant Principal:
1. Use an AI detection tool to evaluate the text.
For work submitted in Google Docs, use Origin to check the text. A tutorial is available here.
2. Look for red flags 🚩 🚩
If you have a bulk submission of documents to check, these can be sent to Academic Technology (via the support email), and someone will upload them on your behalf.
Please be aware that AI checking reveals many “false positives." If you suspect AI and have confirmed your suspicions using one of the methods above, please follow the standard process and contact your Assistant Principal.
GTPZero is a generative AI detection tool. It uses knowledge of proprietary writing patterns to detect ChatGPT and other AI-based languages and technologies. GTPZero scans the text and returns an AI Probability score and classification. As of Fall 2023, GTPZero reports 98% accuracy in identifying AI-generated text.
User reports of accuracy vary.
For work submitted in Google Docs, use Origin by GPTZero to check the text (tutorial)
GPTZero is intended to be used as a second opinion and resource for identifying AI-generated text, not an indicator of academic honesty.
Please also notify the appropriate grade's assistant principal about any concerns.
