Ongoing Comprehension Practice  As students progress through the lesson, short comprehension questions in various formats check their understanding of the content and encourage active reading. At the conclusion of the lesson, students are asked to provide a short written response that connects their learning with their own experience and perspectives, presenting opportunities to express and support their points of view.

Bilingual Articles: Britannica offers articles in English, Spanish, and French, allowing students to read the same content in several languages. This helps readers understand the context and meaning of words and phrases, enhancing vocabulary and language comprehension.

Assessment: Use the platforms’ quizzes and assessments as formative tools to gauge student understanding and progress.

Visual Multimedia Resources: The use of images, videos, and infographics in Britannica can aid in language acquisition by providing visual context to new vocabulary. This is especially helpful in understanding abstract concepts or words that are difficult to translate directly between Spanish, French and English.

Visual Cues and Organizers: Use timelines, diagrams, and other visual tools to organize information clearly.

Customized Research and Project Work: Suggests guided research pathways to assist students in building concise, linear arguments.

Small, Manageable Tasks: Large spaces between paragraphs break down reading into smaller, more manageable chunks to avoid overwhelming students. A table on the left shows students where they are in the article and what information comes before and after the section they are reading.

Read-Aloud Feature: Use the read-aloud feature to assist auditory learners and those with dyslexia or other reading challenges.
